An Expat Talks about Moving to Grecia, Costa Rica, Costa Rica

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Grecia, Costa Rica

What advice would you give someone preparing to move to your area about the actual move, choosing a neighborhood and finding a home?

Grecia is a small town located in the Central Valley of Costa Rica in the Alajuela province. It is known for its beautifully maintained churches as well as its vibrant culture and bakeries. Expats should be aware of the tropical climate in Grecia and be prepared for hot and humid summers with plenty of rainfall. Due to Grecia’s popularity, housing can be limited and costly, so it would benefit expats to do their research ahead of time. However, most rental rates are reasonable, and the farms and plantations surrounding Grecia make for an interesting landscape. Expats should be aware of their surroundings at all times, as petty crime does exist in Grecia. Lastly, it would be beneficial for expats to brush up on their Spanish language skills, as most locals do not speak much English.
