Expat Advice: Culture Shock in Grecia, Costa Rica

Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Grecia

If they speak another language in your new country, do you speak the language? If yes, did you learn the language before you moved or while abroad? If no, are you planning to learn the language?

Learning the language is essential for living in Grecia. Being able to communicate in Spanish is key to integrating into the culture, engaging in everyday activities, and being able to participate in social and economic life. Knowing Spanish will enable people to communicate with family, friends and colleagues, get groceries at the local market, and access services such as banking, government offices and healthcare. Additionally, learning the local language can also lead to improved job prospects, as many employers prefer to hire Costa Rican nationals who speak Spanish fluently.
