Finding parking in Kunming can be challenging, especially in the city center. Most parking spaces are metered, and the cost can add up quickly. It's advisable to use public transportation or taxis when going to crowded areas. Some residential complexes offer parking spaces for rent, which can be a good option if you live in the city.
4. Driving License Requirements
Foreigners cannot drive in China with an international driving license. They must obtain a Chinese driving license. This involves passing a written test in English or Chinese. The test includes questions about traffic rules and road signs. It's advisable to study the Chinese traffic laws and regulations before taking the test.
5. Getting a Chinese Driving License
To get a Chinese driving license, you need to apply at the local traffic police department. The requirements include a valid passport, a valid visa, a health check certificate, and your home country's driving license. You also need to provide a certified translation of your driving license. After submitting the application, you will be scheduled for the written test. Once you pass the test, you will receive your Chinese driving license.
6. Consider Alternatives to Driving
Given the challenges of driving in Kunming, many expats choose to use public transportation, taxis, or ride-sharing services. The public transportation system in Kunming is extensive and affordable.
