Getting a Driver's License in Nepal

In Nepal, a foreigner can legally drive using an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with their valid home country license. Requirements for a Foreigner to Obtain a Nepalese Driving License

• Valid passport and visa
• Valid driving license from home country
• International Driving Permit (IDP)
• Completed application form (available at the Transport Management Office)
• Passport-sized photographs
• Proof of residence in Nepal

Process to Obtain a Nepalese Driving License

• Visit the nearest Transport Management Office. In Kathmandu, it's located at Ekantakuna.

• Obtain and fill out the application form for a new driving license.

• Submit the completed form along with the required documents (passport, visa, home country license, IDP, photographs, and proof of residence).

• Pay the applicable fee at the designated counter.

• Undergo a basic medical check-up at the office or an approved clinic.

• Take the written test (available in English) and practical driving test. For the written test, prepare based on the Nepal Driving License written test syllabus.

• If you pass both tests, your license will be processed. You will receive a notification when it's ready to be collected.
