Summary: Learn how to obtain a residency visa in Lebanon. Expats, Retirees and others who have navigated the process offer advice and guidance for newcomers in Lebanon.

Obtaining a residency visa in Lebanon is not always easy, but our Guide to Residency in Lebanon gives newcomers an overview of the steps involved and advice from others who have already navigated the process.

Please note that the following instructions are a general guide and the actual process may vary depending on your nationality, the purpose of your stay, and changes in Lebanese law. It is always best to consult the nearest Lebanese embassy or consulate, or a legal professional for the most current and personalized advice. As of my knowledge cutoff in early 2023, here is a detailed guide: ```html

  • Research Lebanese Residency Requirements
    • Visit the official website of the General Security of Lebanon for information on different types of residencies: General Security of Lebanon.
    • Identify the type of residency you are eligible for (work, student, family reunification, etc.).
  • Prepare Necessary Documentation
    • Gather personal documents such as your passport, birth certificate, and marriage certificate (if applicable).
    • Obtain a criminal record check from your home country.
    • Get a health insurance policy that is valid in Lebanon.
    • Prepare passport-sized photos.
  • Enter Lebanon
    • Obtain a visa to enter Lebanon, if required for your nationality.
    • Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
  • Apply for a Tax Number
    • Visit the nearest Lebanese tax office to apply for a tax identification number.
    • Fill out the application form and submit it along with a copy of your passport and entry visa.
    • Wait for the tax number to be issued, which may take a few days.
  • Find Accommodation
    • Secure a rental agreement or proof of property ownership in Lebanon.
    • Ensure the accommodation meets the requirements set by the General Security for residency applications.
  • Apply for Residency
    • Visit the local General Security office with all the prepared documents.
    • Complete the residency application form provided by the General Security.
    • Submit the application form along with your passport, photos, rental agreement, health insurance, tax number, and any other required documents.
    • Pay the application fee.
  • Undergo Medical Tests
    • Complete any medical tests required by the Lebanese authorities, such as blood tests and chest X-rays.
    • Submit the medical test results to the General Security office as part of your application.
  • Wait for Approval
    • After submitting your application, wait for the residency permit to be processed.
    • This may take several weeks or months, depending on the type of residency and the volume of applications.
  • Collect Your Residency Permit
    • Once approved, you will be notified to collect your residency permit from the General Security office.
    • Check the permit for any errors and confirm the validity period.
  • Renew Your Residency
    • Keep track of the expiration date of your residency permit.
    • Apply for renewal at the General Security office before your current permit expires, following a similar process as the initial application.
``` Remember to check for any updates to the process or requirements, as immigration laws and procedures can change. It's also important to have all documents translated into Arabic or French, as required by Lebanese authorities, and to have them notarized or authenticated if necessary.
