Visas to enter Australia

My family are moving to Adelaide in Nov 21. I am british, my 2 children are british and Dad is Australian who has been living in Scotland for 20 years. I am struggling to understand the visas required for us to enter Australia. The children don't have Aussie passports and I don't think we have time to get them before we leave. I want to work as soon as I get there but know I need to apply for a partner visa. Does anyone know if we have to apply for the kids visas before we go and also does anyone know the timescales before I can work? Not finding the website very straight forward! Thanks
