Which Passport?

Post New Topic

Hi all,

I have a question about which passport to use when exiting/entering the bahamas. I am both a bahamian and canadian citizen and I was born in canada. Because the bahamas does not recognize dual citizenship, I have to tread carefully when showing which passport to immigration wherever i travel. My question is, which passport do i show when leaving/entering the bahamas when i fly to toronto and vice versa. Can i fly direct from nassau or should i travel through miami?

Thanks!

Mark79, You did not give more information regarding your birth or parents residency/citizenship so I'm responding to what I can.You can always fly into and out of Canada with your Canadian passport. Since you also have a Bahamian passport you should always carry both when traveling. Since you are considered a citizen of Canada you should use the Canadian passport when traveling. You should also google Dual Citizenship Bahamas. It states: Dual citizenship is permitted only under the following limited circumstances. Person obtained dual citizenship due to birth abroad may hold dual citizenship up to age 21. The person then has 12 months to renounce the foreign (non Bahamian) citizenship otherwise, Bahamian citizenship is revoked. There may be other rules and regulations since they are subject to change so you should check the websites for dual citizenship.
