NYC to Dublin - relo package

I am considering a company offered relocation from NYC to Dublin for 2 years. I have not discussed the money particulars with my firm as I wanted to form my own opinion first. Although NYC is not a cheap place to live, from a few articles I read on the Internet, Dublin is not cheap either. My husband and I make about $90,000 each, and I am only seeing salaries of about Euro 40,000 for the jobs we are doing in NYC. Taking into the account that USD is roughly the same as Euro, should we be negotiating for more money or turn down the assignment altogether. We are very fiscally prudent people and realise that by taking jobs in Ireland at about Euro 40,000 a year, in 2 years we will loose a year worth of salary each. Please, help.
Thank you.

If you move, it's clear that it isn't going to be for the money. You should consider it if you really want to experience Ireland. This is a fabulous opportunity for you to learn another culture by living it (not as tourists) - a very privileged situation. But you need to put to rest the salary issue, otherwise, you're going to be miserable for the 2 years you live there. Either accept that you'll take salary hits, or don't go.

My salary has been only going downhill since I left the states, but it's really no big deal. I make enough and I love my life. Perhaps I'll even quit working altogether and raise a family. Your move will change you and your values.

40,000 E is very good. Right now, the E is definitely gaining on the dollar. Dublin is expensive. Deals can still be found. Good luck!
