Hi all,

I am a freelance journalist and currently work as consultant to the International Potato Center (www.cipotato.org).

I am writing an article with the same title of the topic title.

Could someone tell me why the Kazakhs eat more potatoes than people of Peru, for instance, whose territory is today considered as its center of origin?

Thank you for your help!

Jorge

hi, last month was the first time I had ever visited that part of the world [Russia] I was in Atyrau . It did surprise me to see so many potatoes I think this is to do with their climate being so cold and also potatoes grow in abundance its a poor man food ex Russian what do you expect .It was a totally new experience for me I have travelled round the world but have spent most of my life in London UK. I would be going back to Kazakh later this month

Hi Sultana,

Yes, the humble potato is so generous that grows under that kind of climate. Other hipothesis I have is that in Kazakhstan the potato is more cheap than rice and that could contribute to its high consume. What do you think about that?
