Thwart pickpockets & thieves

Street crime is a hotly debated topic in this forum. But instead of arguing about the relative safety, let’s do what we can to protect ourselves when we travel.

I want to recommend that everyone read Bob Arno’s “Travel Intelligence” http://www.bobarno.com/hunters.htm and take a look at their blog too.

He and his wife Bambi study street crime against travelers. Mostly that means pickpockets, but also bag-snatchers, three-shell gamers, con artists, pseudo-cops, hotel crawlers, identity thieves and scamsters.

I will admit that I haven’t purchased their book, but am fascinated with their blog: Thiefhunters in Paradise. Now when I read that someone has “lost” their cell phone, I am somewhat skeptical. As they say, your first defense is awareness and a healthy dose of cynicism.
