Considering a 3 yr stint in UAE

I'm considering a three year assignment in the UAE, and have a tax question. I am a US national. What are the income tax ramifications, are expats taxed at the local UAE rate, US rate? Does it matter if compensation is in UAE or US currency? Any/all info appreciated.
