Cultural Differences in Parenting Styles - Chinese Moms and More
13 years ago
A recent Wall Street Journal article, entitled "Why Chinese Mothers are Superior" (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704111504576059713528698754.html), ignited controversy over cultural differences in parenting styles.
In the article, Amy Chua, Yale Law School professor and author of the new book, Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mom, described the demanding parenting style of some Chinese mothers. Chua's daughters were not allowed to have sleepovers, choose their own extracurricular activities, have playdates, get any grade less than an A, etc.. It's an interesting read and one that expats may have a unique reaction to.
