I recently had the numbers of two credit cards stolen and used. What was puzzling is that they have never been out of my possession.
American Express told me that your cards can be scanned while in your wallet or purse. Discover Card said the same thing. They told me that there are people with laptops and scanning software that will sit in their cars at a busy gas station like Sam's Club and capture all the cards used, which in the case of Sam;s would be Discover and MasterCard.
There are wallets, passport cases and small purses that will protect your cards and passport from being scanned. Yes, your passport may also be at risk, depending on how new it is. They are called RFID blocking wallets etc. Amazon. com has an extensive selection and I just bought two: a passport case and a small bi-fold case that holds credit cards, ID and cash that I can carry in my front pants pocket.
