Work in Salinas

Having been a psychologist for over 20 years in the U.S. I have had it and also since I am marrying an Ecuadoriana I am moving to Ecuador. My first choice is Salinas, but there's one problem. I need to work for a few more years, and I imagine there isn't much in Salinas. I don't have to be a psychologist (although perhaps I can work with expats there or tutor English) and I just want enough to get by, not looking to strike gold. I assume Quito would be the best place to find work, but I don't like it - too much rain and too cold for me (but I'll do it if I have to). I can afford to live at least a year with no income. Do you think there is any chance of my finding something in that time? Or am I just California Dreaming? Many thanks for any responses.
