Where to Begin

Hi
We are looking at moving from Australia to either Canada or the USA but I'm not really sure where to begin (of course I've been looking at Visa's etc but its all sooo confusing, so thought people here might have some tips and advice).
A little about us - I am a stay at home mum taking care of our 4.5 month old son. My husband is a diesel fitter with his Truck License as well. He would like to keep doing what he is doing at present with a view towards studying to do something relating to national parks and conservation in the future, hopefully while we are living and working overseas. We have four dogs (two of whom are deaf so tips from others with deaf dogs on how they went with a move like this would be appreciated. One is also a Staffy cross with a history of being abused so I would love to know which areas are safest BSL wise!!). We also have Two ferrets I would hate to have to leave behind.
Thats a very general overview, not sure what else I should really include. As I say we are only just starting to look into this so obviously it won't happen overnight, but all advice and help is greatly appreciated :)
