Visas

We have a question about the amount of money we need as a couple to receive a annual visa. As a single applicant the requirements are around $35,000 dollars a year and then a spouse needs to show an additional $6000.00 a year. We are being told that the requirements today are for each person to have to show $35,000. Can anyone give a clarification to these current rules?
