I'm approaching retirement. I plan on working into my retirement years remotely so internet is a must. We have a 17 year old son whom we adopted from Guatelmala but is a US citizen. We are hoping he continues our business in Guatemala. We are looking for a safe, secure, happy liffe.

Wife and I are in our late 50s and are ready to retire. We have been researching for years and have ruled out Panama but have a love for Guatemala since visiting a few years ago. We also have some family in the country. We are planning on moving in the next 2 years.

Born in Guatemala and moved to the states at 9. Recall childhood visits to Atitlan and am considering moving there part time in retirement.

I am 31 year old American with parents from Guatemala and El Salvador who are returning to their home countries when they retire in the next few years. I have recently visited my mothers hometown and enjoyed the experience as well as meeting family members I have never met. My mother owns several properties in Puerto Barrios and has offered to gift me one of the properties I particularly liked outskirts of the city and now I am really considering moving there,

I've been visiting Guatemala for a few years and always make a stop at Lake Atitlán. The coat of living seems preferable and affordable. In all honesty, picking up and moving across the world with my pups and personal belongings makes me SUPER nervous! Ja ja

I am interested in San Marcos. I need a place where I feel at home and this seems to be it.

I’m just getting started on my mission to travel and live abroad. Guatemala is first on my radar. I prefer quiet, rural or semi-rural environments. My primary interests include earth based spiritual learnings including herbs, plants, trees, gardening and growing, plant fiber and dye skills, DIY fermentation and wild foods; visual arts, healing arts, music (traditional, violin etc); writing, nature/direct relationship with the earth/ancestors, animals and the spirit in all things; real estate; yoga; vipassana meditation; traditional and ancient/ancestral teachings; some humans; books; travel; Vedic astrology; traditional Chinese herbal medicine; intuitive and psychic perception and perspectives; seek to be away from western stressors and ubiquitous power lines/EMFs and multitude of radio/microwaves and speedy expensive lifestyles. Looking forward to meeting chill, intelligent, deep humans walking in love and expanding my sense of community internationally. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on expatexchange!

Hi There,
My partner and I are considering a move (not a permanent one for now) but an extended stay and are considering what countries to go to. For now, our criteria is somewhere cheap, safe, spanish speaking, with good spanish speaking schools. We also hope to find a warm destination but it doesn't have to be on a beach. Ideally the location won't be too small so there is a lot to do and see when we are there. I look forward to hearing from the EE Community to get your advice and suggestions. :-). We are coming from Canada.
Cheers!

I am 29 years old. I lived in Guatemala as a missionary from 2014-2016. I had to keep a strict schedule and was unable to explore the wonders of Xela. I am planning on taking an extensive trip to Quetzaltenango tutoring English and visit the places I never got to while on my first visit to Guatemala. I plan on staying for 6 months.
