Hi, I'm a former military pilot working through the many mental and emotional costs of my experiences in the military, with my separation finally happening some time in the next few months. My mental health challenges from flying means I'll never use my professional credentials ever again, and I have struggled for the last few years about what I'll do, how I'll make a living in an increasingly expensive world, and what purpose I can find in my life again. A friend of mine spent some time in Guatemala after her own falling out with aviation, and she suggested I consider it as a place I can try something different and maybe find some direction. I studied linguistics in college, and it shouldn't take much to knock the rust off of my Spanish, so I think she may be right that it would potentially be a good fit for me.

Bought home in Santa Lucia Milpas Altas, and planning to retire there in a couple years with my wife which was born and grew up there. So I think it will be easier to adopt but still interested in learning as much as I can to prepare ourselves better!

Met so many of my brother's friends. Or my I say his second family. Hopefully in a couple of years my husband can go and visit again. Once I explained the year round weather he's ready to go.

I am currently an attorney in the U.S. Not to mislead, I am a public defender and not "wealthy". My wife was raised in Guatemala and it has always been her dream to go back. I am ready to relocate and ready to please her. However, I am still young enough, and it would not be economically feasible to retire. I would have to either find employment in Guatemala or develop a way to work between Guatemala and the U.S. Preferably, I can find something that ties the two countries together, either in a government position or otherwise. I appreciate any advice that anyone feels like sharing.

Retired chef and contractor living in Texas quite a bit of travel experience and living overseas. Working and living conditions on a regular basis we're remote. Other than Switzerland and Germany most places where semi-accessible. IE the Virgin Islands Wyoming Southern Caribbean etc. Looking to relocate to the Guatemala start a small business either in the food service industry or small construction. Particular interest in the Atitlan vicinity.

Hello All,
I am a Registered Nurse living in Austin, Tx. I have two children and recently started working from home. I am looking to move to Guatemala in the beginning of 2024. Lake Atitlan. I spent a month in the area in 2008, but have not been back since. I need all the advice I can get. I'm trying to figure out the logistics of owning/building a home and working abroad.
