cancelling "no refund" hotel

We booked a hotel in Ecuador through Booking.com. We didn't realize it was a non-refundable reservation. When the property sent our confirmation, it included images of the room, which were not up to the standards of the rooms represented on the sight. We'd like to cancel. The hotel will bill us directly. If the hotel does not have access to our credit card, will Booking.com intervene on behalf of the hotel? Any advice would be appreciated.
