Real Estate in Georgia

By Joshua Wood, LPC

Last updated on Feb 20, 2023

Summary: A newcomer to Georgia should begin their search by researching the different areas of the state and determining which areas best fit their needs. They should also consider their budget and the type of home they are looking for. Once they have narrowed down their search, they should contact a real estate agent who can help them find the perfect home. Homes in Georgia typically include amenities such as air conditioning, central heating, and a garage. Many homes also have a backyard, a patio, and a swimming pool. Some homes may also include a fireplace, a security system, and a finished basement.

What do I need to know when buying property in Georgia?

When we asked expats what advice they would give a foreigner before buying a property in Georgia, they said:

"When buying property in Georgia, you should research local real estate laws and regulations, familiarize yourself with the property taxes in that area, review a title report and survey of the property, and check for any liens or deed restrictions. Additionally, as a buyer, you should consider obtaining professional guidance from a real estate attorney or Realtor throughout the entire purchasing process. Make sure to thoroughly inspect the property and any potential improvements before committing to a purchase. Lastly, the purchase process in Georgia may require that you make earnest money deposits, sign a promissory note to the seller, and provide proof of sufficient funds to purchase the property," said one foreigner living in Georgia.
