What is it like to retire in Umag?

The city is known for its rich history, beautiful landscapes, and warm, sunny climate, making it an ideal place for those who enjoy outdoor activities. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, and swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. Umag is also home to a number of cultural attractions. The city's old town is a charming maze of narrow, winding streets lined with historic buildings, while the local museums offer a glimpse into the region's past. The city also hosts a number of festivals and events throughout the year, including the renowned ATP Croatia Open Umag, a professional tennis tournament that attracts players and fans from around the world. While Umag is not known for its nightlife in the same way as some other Croatian cities, there are still plenty of options for those who enjoy a night out. The city has a number of bars and restaurants, many of which offer live music and other entertainment. There are also several wine cellars in the area where you can sample the local vintages. As for the expat community, while it may not be as large or as established as in some other parts of Croatia, there is still a significant number of foreigners living in and around Umag. Many of them are retirees who have chosen to settle in the area because of its relaxed lifestyle, beautiful surroundings, and friendly locals. There are also a number of organizations and clubs that cater to the expat community, providing opportunities for socializing and networking. In terms of healthcare, Umag has a well-equipped general hospital and several pharmacies. For more specialized treatment, the larger city of Pula is just a short drive away. Overall, life for a retiree in Umag can be quite comfortable and enjoyable. The city offers a good mix of cultural attractions, recreational activities, and social opportunities, all set against the backdrop of Croatia's stunning Adriatic coast," remarked one retiree in Umag.
