What advice do overseas retirees have for others considering retiring abroad?

"Be prepared to embrace a new culture, speak the language and make new friends. Do plenty of research before committing to a country, so you make sure it meets your needs as a retiree. If considering buying property, check in advance that you can legally own it and that there are no complications associated with it. Also be aware of the local laws and regulations and familiarise yourself with the tax system. Consider what the health system is like and what level of medical care you may need. Have a financial plan in place in order to make sure you are able to sustain your retirement for the duration. Making sure that your pension or investments are reasonable to cover your costs and that there are no huge fluctuations in currency affects can be a key factor," said one retiree in living in Lima, Peru.
