What advice do overseas retirees have for others considering retiring abroad?

"Do your research and visit the area multiple times before you move. Learn about the culture and customs of the country and talk to people who have lived there. Before making the decision to move abroad, familiarize yourself with the legal requirements for residency and taxes. Research the cost of living and available health insurance options. Make sure you get to know your neighbors and build a support system before you retire. It’s also important to ensure that you can stay financially secure in your retirement. Consider what activities you enjoy and how you can stay engaged and connected to a new culture. Learning the language is a great way to do this. Lastly, take the time to enjoy the experience," explained one retiree living in Ljubljana.

What are the most challenging aspects of retiring in Ljubljana?

"One of the most challenging aspects of retiring in Ljubljana is the cost of living. The city is known for its high prices, and retirees may find it difficult to make ends meet on a fixed income. Additionally, the language barrier can be a challenge for those who do not speak Slovenian. Although English is widely spoken, it is not the primary language, and many services may not be available in English. Finally, the healthcare system in Slovenia can be difficult to navigate, and retirees may find it difficult to access the care they need," said one retiree in living in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
