What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Willikies?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Willikies about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in Antigua and Barbuda. The country has a mix of public and private healthcare, with the Mount St. John's Medical Centre being the main hospital. Ensure you have comprehensive health insurance that covers maternity care, as private healthcare can be expensive. Prenatal care is essential for the health of both the mother and the baby. Regular check-ups with a trusted healthcare provider should be scheduled throughout the pregnancy. It's also important to understand the country's maternity leave policies if you are working. In Antigua and Barbuda, women are entitled to a minimum of 13 weeks of maternity leave. Consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide additional support and guidance throughout the pregnancy and during childbirth. If you're planning to give birth in a hospital, visit the hospital beforehand to familiarize yourself with the facilities and understand the procedures. Ensure that your baby's birth is registered in Antigua and Barbuda. This is important for obtaining a birth certificate, which is necessary for future legal procedures like obtaining a passport. Lastly, connect with other expat parents in Willikies or other parts of Antigua and Barbuda. They can provide valuable advice, support, and friendship during this exciting time in your life," explained one expat living in Willikies, Antigua & Barbuda.
