What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Korcula?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Korcula about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the Croatian healthcare system. Croatia has a universal healthcare system, but private healthcare is also available. You may want to consider getting private health insurance to cover any additional costs. Secondly, you should find a local doctor or midwife who speaks your language. Communication is key during pregnancy and childbirth, so it's important to find a healthcare professional you can communicate with effectively. Thirdly, you should research the local hospitals and birthing centers in Korcula. Visit them if possible, to get a feel for the facilities and staff. Fourthly, consider hiring a doula or birth coach who can provide additional support and guidance during the pregnancy and childbirth process. Fifthly, make sure to understand the legal requirements for registering the birth in Croatia. You will need to register the birth with the local registry office and your home country's embassy or consulate. Lastly, try to connect with other expat parents in Korcula. They can provide valuable advice and support, and may be able to recommend local resources such as pediatricians, childcare services, and parenting groups," wrote a member who made the move to Korcula, Croatia.
