What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Kilkenny?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Kilkenny about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the Irish healthcare system. Ireland offers a Maternity and Infant Care Scheme which provides free maternity services to all expectant mothers for their pregnancy and up to 6 weeks after the baby is born. Secondly, consider hiring a midwife or doula for additional support during pregnancy and childbirth. They can provide personalized care and guidance throughout the process. Thirdly, start looking for a pediatrician early on. It's important to find a doctor who you trust and feel comfortable with. Fourthly, consider taking prenatal classes. These can be a great way to prepare for childbirth and parenthood, and it's also a good opportunity to meet other expectant parents in Kilkenny. Fifthly, make sure to understand your maternity leave rights. In Ireland, mothers are entitled to 26 weeks of paid maternity leave, with the option to take an additional 16 weeks of unpaid leave. Lastly, don't forget to enjoy this special time. Ireland is a wonderful place to raise a child, with a strong sense of community and plenty of beautiful outdoor spaces to explore," explained one expat living in Kilkenny, Ireland.
