What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Popoyo. They wrote...

"Expats in Popoyo often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. The slower pace of life, known as "Nica time", can also be a challenge for those accustomed to more punctual and fast-paced societies. Additionally, the lack of certain amenities and services that they might be used to in their home countries, such as high-speed internet or a wide variety of grocery items, can be difficult to adjust to. The local customs and social norms may also be different from what expats are used to, which can lead to misunderstandings or cultural faux pas. Lastly, the heat and humidity of the tropical climate can be uncomfortable for those not used to such conditions," said a member in Popoyo, Nicaragua.
