What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Astana. They wrote...
"Expats in Astana often find the language barrier to be one of the most challenging aspects of the local culture. Kazakh is the official language of the country, and many locals do not speak English. Additionally, the local customs and traditions can be difficult to understand for those who are not familiar with the culture. For example, it is important to dress modestly and to show respect for elders. Furthermore, the local cuisine can be quite different from what expats are used to, and it can take some time to get used to the flavors and ingredients," commented one expat who made the move to Astana, Kazakhstan.
