What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Ericeira. They wrote...

"Expats in Ericeira often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and the local dialect can be difficult to understand. The slower pace of life can also be a challenge for those used to a faster, more hectic lifestyle. Additionally, some expats may struggle with the Portuguese concept of time, which is more relaxed and less punctual than in other cultures. The bureaucracy in Portugal can also be overwhelming for expats, as it can be complex and time-consuming. Lastly, while the locals are generally friendly and welcoming, it can take time to fully integrate into the community and make local friends," remarked another expat in Ericeira, Portugal.
