What is it like to retire in Mondulkiri?
We asked retirees what it is like retiring in Mondulkiri. They said...
"Life for a retiree in Mondulkiri, can be quite serene and peaceful, as the region is known for its lush landscapes, rolling hills, and rich biodiversity. The area is less developed compared to other parts of Cambodia, which can be a draw for those seeking a quiet, rural lifestyle. There isn't a large expat community in Mondulkiri, as it's more of a rural and remote area. However, the expat community in the nearby city of Phnom Penh is quite active and diverse, and it's a few hours' drive away. Cultural attractions in Mondulkiri include the local indigenous Bunong communities, who have a rich cultural heritage and unique traditions. There are also several beautiful temples and pagodas in the area, such as the Aram Rong Chen pagoda. For recreation, Mondulkiri offers plenty of outdoor activities. The region is home to several national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, such as the Mondulkiri Elephant & Wildlife Sanctuary and the Phnom Prich Wildlife Sanctuary. These offer opportunities for trekking, wildlife spotting, and bird watching. The nightlife in Mondulkiri is quite limited, as it's a rural area. However, there are a few local bars and restaurants where one can enjoy a quiet evening. For a more vibrant nightlife, one would have to travel to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap. Overall, life for a retiree in Mondulkiri would be quiet and close to nature, with opportunities for cultural immersion and outdoor activities. It may not be the best fit for those seeking a bustling expat community or a vibrant nightlife, but it could be ideal for those seeking a peaceful, rural lifestyle," wrote a member who made the move to Mondulkiri, Cambodia.
