What are healthcare services like in Heraklion?

Answer this Question

We asked retirees if they have access to good medical care in Heraklion. They wrote...

"Healthcare services in Heraklion are generally of a high standard, with a mix of public and private healthcare facilities available. The city is home to the University Hospital of Heraklion, one of the largest and most well-equipped hospitals in Greece, offering a wide range of medical services. There are also numerous smaller clinics and health centers throughout the city, providing a variety of healthcare services. Many healthcare professionals in Heraklion are highly trained and multilingual, making it easier for international patients to communicate. Private healthcare in Heraklion is also popular, with many choosing it for its shorter waiting times and high-quality service. However, it's important to note that while emergency treatment is free, non-emergency treatment in public hospitals usually comes with a fee. Therefore, having health insurance is highly recommended. Pharmacies are widely available throughout the city, and many are open 24 hours," remarked another expat who made the move to Heraklion, Greece.
