"Research and plan carefully to ensure that the country you choose is the right fit for you. Consider factors such as your personal health, finances, the cost of living, the political climate, the language spoken and the availability of healthcare. Make sure you get to understand the culture and speak the language to the best of your ability. Discuss visa requirements and other legal aspects of living and working in the area with a knowledgeable lawyer or other trusted advisor. Check to see if your country of choice offers retirement programs that suit your goals, such as pension contributions, medical insurance schemes and tax advantages. Lastly, find out if the country offers enough social and recreational activities that you can enjoy in your retirement," explained one expat living in Punta del Este, Uruguay.
