"When considering retiring abroad, research the host country to ensure it meets your requirements and needs. For example, what visa options are available? What healthcare options are available for expats? What is the tax burden for foreigners? Additionally, advising a lawyer who is well-versed in the laws and regulations of that country is valuable, as they can provide advice on the legal and financial aspects of retiring overseas. It is also important to assess your own personal objectives, such as desired lifestyle, safety and other requirements. Investigate the cost of living in the country of interest and be honest with yourself about the cost of living you are comfortable with. Make sure you plan ahead and book flights, accommodation and activities in advance to get the best deals. Finally, be prepared to adapt to the local culture and make sure to plan visits to explore the country prior to committing to a permanent move in order to get to know the region and its locals," said another expat in Paros, Greece.
