The official language is Arabic, although English is widely spoken, especially in business settings. The culture in Fujairah, like the rest of the UAE, is deeply rooted in Islamic traditions, and expats should respect these customs. The climate is hot and dry, with temperatures often exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in the summer. The healthcare system in the UAE is of a high standard, but private health insurance is recommended as public healthcare is primarily for UAE nationals. The UAE has a zero-tolerance policy towards drugs and strict laws on alcohol consumption. It's also worth noting that the UAE has strict laws on public behavior and dress code, particularly for women. Fujairah is less cosmopolitan than other parts of the UAE like Dubai or Abu Dhabi, but it offers a more relaxed lifestyle with beautiful beaches and mountains. The crime rate is low, making it a safe place to live. Lastly, while the UAE does not levy income tax, there is a value-added tax (VAT) on goods and services.
