As a foreigner living in Sydney, will I have access to public healthcare? What is it like?
We asked expats in Sydney if they have access to public healthcare in Sydney. And, if they do have access, what is it like. They wrote...
"As a foreigner living in Sydney, your access to public healthcare will depend on your visa status and the reciprocal healthcare agreements between Australia and your home country. If you are from a country with a reciprocal healthcare agreement, you may be eligible for Medicare, which provides access to public healthcare services such as subsidized or free treatment by healthcare professionals, free treatment and accommodation in public hospitals, and subsidized prescription medications. However, it is important to note that Medicare may not cover all medical expenses, and you might still need to pay for some services or treatments. The public healthcare system in Australia is generally of high quality, with well-trained medical professionals and modern facilities. However, waiting times for non-urgent treatments can be long, and you may need to consider private health insurance for more comprehensive coverage and faster access to specialists," said another in Sydney, Australia.
