"You can usually get them over the counter, some are very expensive but if you get the right prescription with number of EHIC on it it will cost 1/4 of the total amount (in my case-Xarelto)," said another expat in Algarve, Portugal.
"Prescription medications are widely available in Portugal. Most pharmacies carry a wide range of medications, including both generic and brand-name drugs. Many pharmacies also offer online ordering and delivery services. In addition, Portugal has a national health service that provides free or low-cost medications to those who qualify," wrote a member who made the move to Portugal.
