Forty Foot is a historic bathing site located in Sandycove, near Dalkey, in southern Dublin. This shallow, rocky pool has been used for bathing since the 18th century, particularly for winter swimmers. Despite its name, the pool is approximately 30 feet long and 20 feet wide. The site offers a unique experience for both local residents and visitors, providing a picturesque backdrop and invigorating swim. The area is also rich in wildlife, with seals and various bird species frequently spotted. Access to the Forty Foot is via a set of steps leading down from the cliffside. The site is well-maintained and lifeguards are present during the summer months. A popular tradition among regular swimmers is the "Christmas Day Dip," an annual event held on New Year's Day.
