Purchasing a rental property

I am looking to purchase a vacation rental property in a somewhat touristy area but not too busy or one on the outskirts for our family to stay in and also rent out like a vrbo when we aren't in the country. My husband is from Guatemala and has a house in Jutiapa but I (an American resident) would like something closer to the tourist areas but on the outside of the busy areas. I hope this makes sense and someone can give me some advice or send me in the right direction. Thank you.
