What are the main industries in this city? What types of career opportunities commonly exist? How do most people find new jobs?

There are alot of chefs and waitresses working out there who are mostly expats. Bermudians do not like to work unsociable hours, so do not seem th be interested in these type of jobs. There are also lots of English nanny's and hairdressers. The agencies normally find the staff which the Bermudians can not fill.

What type of work do you do and how did you find your job?

I worked as a Silver service/Bar Waitress. This was advertised in the Caterer magazine.

How did you obtain your work permit? What advice would you have for others about work permits?

This was arranged by the agency in Bermuda. You have to forward copies of qualifications and a C.V.

Have you taken language and cross-cultural training courses to prepare for your assignment? If so, how have they helped you on the job?

No language course needed. The culture is very much like American.

If you were transferred abroad by your employer, were you guaranteed a job upon repatriation? What type of mentoring programs does your employer offer?

Not applicable.

What advice would you offer others about finding jobs and working abroad?

Certainly in Bermuda, it was quite easy through the Bermudian agency. We worked a six day week, which was pretty normal for catering staff. My appartment was already found for me by the resturant, this is the largest expence.
