Philippines’s Healthcare System

The public healthcare system in the Philippines is managed by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). This system is used by both locals and foreigners, including expats and digital nomads. However, for serious medical emergencies and major surgeries, people often recommend using private hospitals due to their better facilities and services. Public hospitals in Siargao are generally basic and may not have the same level of equipment and specialists as private hospitals. Expats primarily use private hospitals, which are known for their higher standards of care and modern facilities.
