immigration info

Someone messaged asking if they could write me privately re immigration. And I thought others might like info also so I am posting broadly.

While I am happy to answer you my information would be from when we did this 4 years ago.

Although I was 50 at the time our reasoning was to get a 'pensioner's visa--Jubilado they call it. If you have any income around the $1400.mo mark (For one person) That way you can work anywhere, quit, and go to work somewhere else without worrying about changing your status with the government. You do not have to be a certain age for this--just have some guaranteed income from somewhere. Hubby and I each got one so we could each do whatever we wanted. We now have our permanent residence status and next year can get a Chilean passport.

We have been told since that getting a visa as a business investor is a good way to go. I don't know though. Starting and getting a business license here inside the country for us has been nothing but a pain in the ass.

There is another forum you might want to start consulting as they cover the visa/legal area thoroughly. They have a Chilean attorney specializing in these Q's.But they don't do basics you can do yourself only cleaning up messes when it's an expat with bigger problems. But they also have lots of specific data about various areas of the country and things going on.
