Moving to Costa Rica

My wife and I are selling our house this summer, with the goal of living for 9 months in Costa Rica. If things go well, we hope to buy a small business and settle for longer.

I am midway through my training as a Scuba diving instructor, and my wife is a certified Yoga, Pillates, and Personal Trainer.

A few questions would help us:
1. We will have a 1 year old, and so would like to settle somewhere that is child-friendly, and has fairly good access to doctors, etc.

2. We would like to be able to (at least) practice our interests, but ideally we would like to work some. Do instructors like this get work visas? Is work at all possible for us?

3. We are living off a monthly payment of about $1600 (US). I don't think this will be a problem?
