Retire in Costa Rica

Retiring to Costa Rica is increasing in popularity among American baby boomers. The low cost of living and healthcare, low crime rate and beautiful climate have brought many expatriates to Costa Rica for retirement.
As the world market has changed over the last two years, speculators and developers have over bought and demand has dropped for Costa Rica real estate. Prices have come down as much as 300% - 400% in many cases on ocean-view land and luxury homes and condos, turning the eye of the middle class retiree in the U.S. back to Costa Rica as an option for affordable retirement and second homes. This combined with the growing discontent with the current “State of the Union” is creating a new influx of retirees to Costa Rica.
Vibrant expat communities which combine a unique blend of U.S. culture with Costa Rican culture can be found all over the country. A pure and natural lifestyle, great weather, high quality and affordable healthcare and excellent infrastructure have many baby boomers loving life as retirees in Costa Rica. hi, live in cr and have to respond to this post. first and foremost i recommend a long visit before a commitment to move here. in reference to this post, property prices have not fallen 300-400%. their values may hit that level, but simple web searches will show that this is not true. as for a cheap cost of living, i believed this would be true... it has not turned out to be real. i find that most items in a grocery store are a much lower quality and at least 50% or more higher in cost. the countryside in cr is truly truly beautiful and if you are planning a remote and secluded existence, this may be the perfect place for you! but if you plan on living in any communities i just recommend living in a rental here for a minimum of 2 months before buying anything. it seems to be a bit more of an expensive option, but far far less expensive than trying to sell something bought on an emotional impulse.

i feel that this post is for discussions, not advertisements... this is the reason for my response. questions and answers are the point, everyone has a point of view, but if the post is by a realtor, think about the source and research. it's a big big decision....

I fully agree with the person that suggested that you live in a country for awhile and really see it before buying.
