Setting Up Banking Accounts

I need help please. I am retired and moving to Costa Rica at the end of Aug. or early Sept. We are also planning a pre-moveing trip at the beginning to mid Aug. to open bank accounts, and find a place to rent. My question is what will we need to accomplish these things when we come? Do we need letters from our banks, Proof of income? Not sure how to go about setting up my accounts. Was wondering if I should keep my U.S. Accounts and have money wired to Costa Rica accounts every month or what. Any help is desperately needed and would be greatly appreciated.
