Where to go CR or Nic??

I have been researching but am getting more confused. Cost of living is a huge issue for me. I will be retiring on $1200 to $1400 a month. Some say Nicaragua because it's cheaper and the people are friendlier. Some say Costa Rica because there is a higher standard of living and better health care. I am going to visit both this summer but would like to get a few opinions. Also are there any expat groups/communities that I can talk to while I am there?
