Happy New Year!
We are moving to Costa Rica from California with my parents, who are adventurous 75 and 77 year olds.
My parents need some private health insurance while they wait for applications for residency to be processed. We understand that a lot of people use CAJA, plus pay out of pocket for private medical care, but what do people 75+ do until they get residency?
It has been suggested to them that they either return to the U.S. every 60 days to keep their Medicare travel insurance, or pay $15,000+ a year for private coverage.
Are there any other options? What health insurance is popular among expats in Costa Rica? Are there local companies now that you would recommend?
Thanks,
Kate
