Recent border crossing experience

Hello,
I crossed from CR into Panama last week with no problems at all; despite what others have experienced, I was not asked for an airplane ticket nor $500 nor a credit card. However, coming back into CR yesterday, I was asked for my plane ticket and to show the officer at the window that I had $300. That's never happened to me or anyone else I know of. Wondering if others have heard of this being asked (showing money to the officer)? Thanks....
