Car rental, shuttle transport

HI. My husband and I are renting a house in San Isidro del General for a month this winter. We will stay for a night at an airport hotel in San Jose and then want to rent a car and head south for the 3 to 4 hour drive. Any suggestions on companies and what to be aware of in renting?
Also, our kids are coming to visit for a week and we would like to find some sort of transport from the San Jose airport to get them closer to us. Any ideas on that? Thanks!

use caution - look for a bajonazo - this is where crooks set up rental cars to have flat tires after having gone a few miles - great way for them to rob you!!

We have always used Hertz right at airport. Great new cars well equipped and never a hassle.

If you are renting a vehicle for your own vacation, why not go and get them...?
