New Topic Newest First

Hello all - we are in the early stages of preparing for a move to CR - hopefully someone can help with this question - what would be the Marchamo, or road tax be on a 2021 TOYOTA SUV, with list price of 40,000.00 US.

Thanks to any and all, Dave

At this time, many are hoping that the Marchamo is going to be lowered this years but so far it has not been announced.

Thanks Kohl...I did a little research and last year, a vehicle purchased for 40K had a 2K annual Marchamo...does this sound about right?

Sorry, never had an expensive/new vehicle when we lived there, so it would just be a guess.

The website below offers some 'interesting' info; "However, a negotiated price of $40,000 USD turns into about $48,000 USD, out the door, by the time you add in the 13% Value Added Tax (VAT) and the pre-payed Marchamo. This price is if you pay cash!"

Looks like the Marchamo will be reduced for 2022; however, for certain valor (values) only as per this article.

https://www.teletica.com/politica/asi-seria-la-rebaja-en-el-marchamo-de-2022_295936

In another month when the actual Marchamo info is published, I might be able to get an approximate amount for you based on similarly valued vehicles. However, as mentioned in the previous posts, it really is based on what CR values the vehicle in the country so there is a bit of a glitch there until you have the CR value established. Hope it helps!

Some expats we know avoid driving at night if possible, especially when it is raining or a pay day before a weekend.

This year, from January to October, despite the ban-on-driving rule, the limited hours allowed to open bars, stores and places to buy liquor, the traffic police reported 290 deaths caused by traffic accidents.

Based on the ministry statistics, the death rate in vehicle crash accidents increased by 47 deaths, compared with the same period in 2020 when there were 243 deaths.

Speeding and reckless driving caused a high number of accidents, they said.

Also, from January to August, the police had fined 34,202 drivers for breaking the Traffic Law.

People can report any accidents to the Traffic Law by dialing the 911 emergency line. amcostarica.com

Did you ever get the Machismo values for 2022. I am trying to find a vehicle and am limited on what i can drive due to disability. Unforuntaly that is putting me in a higher value category but I don't want to be killed on the Machimo, insurance etc, There has to be a happy medium somewhere

We just paid our tax ($ 1100) on our BMW which we bought for $ 30,000 (used) last year but they only valued it at $ 18,000 for the tax. Being from CA we thought that was cheap and a lucky reeducation from what the car is actually worth today.

Looking for a BMW X3 but heard not to go to Grecia (I am in Atenas) as that is where al the flood cars go. Then money is in US so need to be able to wire and was told if buy from individuals there is no warranty and they don't like wires. So seems limited to buying from a used car dealership with a 1 month warranty that will accept a wire as New car dealerships have no inventory.

If I am getting any of this wrong, please advise. Have had a hell of a time finding a car with low mileage or miles that have not been rolled back.

Also open to Audi NX, Hyundai Sante Fe and Nissan X-Trail.
