Residency via a Costa Rican Spuse

Good morning - I am writing to see if anyone here has applied for their (temp for 3 years then perm) residency? Currently I am working with the lawyers office that married us. She is wanting me to obtain something stating that I legally changed my name in the USA - which as you all probably know only the marriage certificate is needed to change a name here. BUT, now my birth certificate does not match my FBI background check.

Does anyone know of or has had to request a certification from the US SS department? Or should I ask for a legal judgement from a court in my home state of Texas?

I feel like the marriage license or certificate that they gave me would be enough...but, since Tico's do not change their name at marriage I do understand it is obviously a foreign concept to them.

So basically, just wondering if anyone else has had to work thru this?

The lawyer is going to the immigration office there in Liberia next week to ask if it will be okay....so basically she doesn't even know.

She did say that for US couples who obtain their residency in CR the marriage license is sufficient to show because they were married in the USA. So.....again....why won't the Costa Rican certificate work? LOL.

Any help would be appreciate. I will stop rambling on now!

Corey
