Hello
My wife and I retired early and lived for 2 years in Penang, Malaysia, and 3 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Due to Covid and to help with aging parents, we returned to my wife's hometown of Edmonton, Alberta in October 2020.
Despite Thailand's heat being a bit intense for us, winters suck in Canada and the social madness and protests are overwhelming me.
While the future is uncertain, we want to get away to a beach town next winter for 4 weeks to explore the expat vibe but not as hotel or resort tourists so we prefer an AirBnb type house rental. Tamarindo appears too pricey and overly bustling so I'm looking for advice/recommendations on somewhere less touristy but not too dead. We prefer Guanacaste and think Coco may be a possibility. We'd like to try two different beach towns for two weeks each.
We've only visited Costa Rica once 20 years ago so know little about the current expat situation. Thanks to all
